These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the themethodproject.org website and any related content, features, and services (together, the "Site"), operated by The Method Project ("we," "us," or "our"). By accessing or using the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.
01
Acceptance of these terms
By accessing or using the Site, you confirm that you can form a binding contract with us and that you agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated by reference. We may update these Terms from time to time as described in "Changes to these terms" below.
02
About The Method Project
The Method Project is a Wyoming-based nonprofit organization providing fiscal sponsorship, capacity building, and collaborative networks for nonprofits. The Site provides information about our organization and programs and lets you contact us and apply to our programs. Where the Site offers a way to contribute, the Donations and payments section below governs that contribution.
Information on the Site is provided for general informational purposes only and does not constitute legal, financial, tax, accounting, or other professional advice. Using the Site does not create an attorney-client, fiduciary, or other professional relationship between you and us. We do not guarantee any particular outcome from any program, certification, consultation, or resource, including that any organization will obtain tax-exempt status, receive funding, or achieve any result.
03
Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live, to make a contribution, create an account, or enter into agreements through the Site. By using those features you represent that you meet this requirement.
04
Acceptable use
When using the Site, you agree not to:
- Use the Site for any unlawful, harmful, or fraudulent purpose;
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Site, our systems, or other users’ accounts;
- Interfere with or disrupt the Site, its security, or its underlying infrastructure;
- Upload or transmit malware, or scrape, harvest, or collect data from the Site without our permission;
- Use the Site or its content to develop, train, or improve any machine-learning or artificial-intelligence model without our prior written permission; or
- Misrepresent your identity or affiliation, or use the Site to infringe the rights of others.
05
Donations and payments
This section sets out the terms that govern a contribution to The Method Project. Individual payment methods and flows are introduced over time, and each term below applies to a given method from the point we offer it. Nothing in this section obliges us to offer any particular method, and the options available to you are the ones presented at the time you give.
Payment processing
When you make a donation or other payment to us, it may be processed or received through third-party financial-service providers, currently Stripe and Mercury. Depending on the option you select, the applicable provider may facilitate payment by card, digital wallet, ACH debit or transfer, wire, or another available method. Not every method is available for every contribution, and we may route a contribution to a particular provider or method based on the amount, the payment method, or other operational factors.
By submitting a donation or payment, you authorize The Method Project and the applicable provider to process the amount and frequency shown at checkout using the payment method or payment instructions you provide. The applicable provider’s terms, privacy notice, payer authorizations, and payment-network rules also apply to its services.
Transactions may be delayed, reviewed, declined, held, returned, reversed, or cancelled by a provider or financial network. Our ability to treat a contribution as completed, issue or correct an acknowledgment, or make funds available to a project is subject to settlement and applicable return, reversal, and chargeback rules. You are responsible for providing accurate payment information and maintaining sufficient funds or credit for the transaction.
If recurring donations are offered, choosing a recurring frequency authorizes the applicable provider to initiate future charges or debits until you cancel. You may cancel future recurring donations through the method provided by the applicable provider or on the Site, or by contacting us. Cancellation does not reverse charges already processed and may not stop a transaction already submitted for processing.
Refunds
Donations are generally final. If you believe a donation was unauthorized or made in error, contact hello@themethodproject.org promptly. We will review refund requests in good faith and may issue a refund in our discretion, subject to applicable law, the applicable provider’s and financial network’s rules, and whether funds have already been committed or used. Any approved refund will ordinarily be returned through the original payment method when feasible.
Federal tax-exempt status
The Method Project’s EIN is 42-3630821. The IRS has recognized The Method Project as an organization exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, effective July 4, 2026, and has classified us as a public charity under Section 170(b)(1)(A)(vi). Contributions made to The Method Project on or after that effective date are deductible under Section 170 to the extent allowed by law. Please consult your own tax advisor regarding the treatment of any contribution.
Fiscally sponsored projects
You may be able to recommend that a contribution support a particular fiscally sponsored project. Any such designation is a recommendation, not a restriction that binds us. Consistent with the requirements that apply to fiscal sponsors, The Method Project retains legal control and discretion over all contributions it receives and over their use, and may apply an administrative fee and payment-processing costs. If a project ends, becomes unable to use the funds, or leaves our sponsorship, we may apply the contribution to a purpose that is as consistent as reasonably possible with the original recommendation.
Fiscal sponsorship, certification, grant, and other program relationships are created only through a separate written agreement. Where such an agreement conflicts with these Terms, that agreement controls for the subject it covers.
06
Submissions
If you send us an application, message, proposal, testimonial, or other material (a "Submission"), you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, store, reproduce, and adapt that Submission for the purpose of evaluating it, responding to you, and administering our programs. You represent that you have the rights necessary to grant this license and that the Submission does not infringe the rights of others.
We will not publish a Submission that identifies you publicly without your permission. Do not send us confidential information that you do not want us to receive, and do not send us sensitive personal information unless we specifically request it.
07
Intellectual property
The Site and its content, including text, graphics, logos, and the marks Method Certified™ and Built to Be Funded™, are owned by The Method Project or its licensors and are protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Site for its intended purpose. You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from our content without our prior written permission, except as allowed by law.
08
Disclaimers
The Site is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that any information on it is complete or current. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so some of these exclusions may not apply to you.
09
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Method Project and its directors, officers, employees, and volunteers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, revenue, or goodwill, arising out of or relating to your use of the Site, whether based in contract, tort, or any other legal theory, and whether or not we were advised of the possibility of such damages.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Site or these Terms will not exceed US $100. This limitation does not apply to liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, and it does not limit our obligations with respect to a contribution beyond what is described in the Donations and payments section above. Some jurisdictions do not allow the limitation of certain damages, so some of these limitations may not apply to you.
10
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless The Method Project and its directors, officers, employees, and volunteers from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your misuse of the Site, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of the rights of another.
11
Third-party services and links
The Site may use or link to third-party services, including Stripe and Mercury for donation and payment services, as well as hosting, authentication, communications, monitoring, and other providers. We do not control third-party services and are not responsible for their availability, security, content, or practices. Your use of a third-party service may be governed by separate terms, payer authorizations, and privacy policies.
A link or integration does not imply endorsement unless we expressly say so.
12
Text message program
You receive these messages only if you set them up yourself, on your own account. This is a security feature, not a marketing program: we send a one-time sign-in code and nothing else, only when you sign in or set up text message codes, and never on a recurring or scheduled basis.
- Consent. You opt in by entering your mobile number and checking the consent box on the setup screen. Consent is not a condition of using your account: an authenticator app is offered at the same step and protects the account the same way.
- Rates. Standard message and data rates may apply, depending on your mobile plan. We do not charge for these messages.
- Stopping. Reply STOP to any message to cancel at any time. Reply HELP for help. To change or remove the number on an account, contact an administrator: there is no self-service option today. Cancelling does not close your account, but you will need another sign-in method to keep access.
- Delivery. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Keep backup codes or a second sign-in method so that a delivery failure does not lock you out.
- Customer care. Questions about text messages can go to hello@themethodproject.org.
The Privacy Policy describes what we collect when you opt in, including the record we keep of your consent, and who we disclose your mobile number to in order to deliver these messages.
13
Governing law and venue
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. You and we agree that any dispute arising out of or relating to the Site or these Terms will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Teton County, Wyoming, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.
14
Changes to these terms
We may modify these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Changes are effective when posted. Your continued use of the Site after changes are posted means you accept the updated Terms.
